A POLICE dog played a vital role in assisting officers with an arrest following a knifepoint robbery in Basildon.

Officers were called to Crouch Street shortly before 1am on Thursday, 29 September following reports of a knifepoint robbery. The victim, a food delivery driver was approached by two men and threatened with a knife before having their moped stolen.

Within minutes police were on the scene and police dog Kaiser chased the suspects over a wall, where they were met by officers on the other side and arrested. Kaiser then assisted officers further by locating forensic evidence including a hat which had been discarded nearby.

A 21-year-old from Basildon and a 16-year-old boy from Basildon were arrested and have since been released under investigation.
