VISITORS to Basildon town centre will soon be able to enjoy even more dining choice following an announcement about the latest occupant of the new East Square cinema development.

A new Nandos restaurant will open later this year, with work beginning on site today (Tuesday, 2 August).

A spokesperson from Nando's said: "Nando's is very excited to be opening a new restaurant in East Square. We are relocating after successfully trading in Basildon since 2008 and look forward to being part of the new restaurant and leisure location in the town centre. The new restaurant will have 100 covers, a unique Nando's design and will open later this year." 

The new development has been led by Basildon Council and will include six new dining experiences, including Orleto Lounge which opened in February 2022 and Kaspa's Desserts opening in Autumn 2022, as well as the upcoming Empire Cinema. 

Cabinet regeneration portfolio holder Cllr Craig Rimmer welcomed the announcement, saying: "I am so excited to welcome Nando's to the East Square development in Basildon Town Centre. The success of Orleto Lounge and the recent announcement of the upcoming Kaspa's Desserts, shows that people want to spend their time and money in Basildon.

"Nando's adds even more choice to this popular destination and the East Square development is bringing opportunity and a much-needed boost to the town centre."
