Flag-raising marks start of VE Day in Basildon

THIS morning (Thursday, 8 May) the Mayor of Basildon, Cllr Allan Davies, led a poignant flag raising ceremony at the Basildon Centre to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Cllr Davies said: "It is an opportunity for us to come together to honour and pay our respects to those who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today.
"The ceremony was a moment to reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of the Second World War generation, and to honour the peace and freedom they secured for us all.
"Thank you to everyone who took part in this important act of remembrance."
