POLICE officers arrested two men yesterday, just hours after a report of a knifepoint robbery in Basildon.

The alert was raised and officers called to Repton Close at around 1.30pm yesterday afternoon (8 August), following reports of a knifepoint robbery where the victim had his electric bike stolen. The victim was approached by two men and threatened before having his high-value bike stolen.

Officers including armed response officers were deployed and drones were lifted to determine the location of suspects.

A short while later, a man in possession of two electric bikes and matching the description of one of the suspects was detained and arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Further to this, a second man was spotted by a member of the public hiding and was also arrested.

The two men, a 20-year-old and a 19 year-old remain in custody.
