THE driver involved in a horror crash that killed two children riding an e-scooter in Basildon will face no further charges, police have confirmed.

Roman Casselden, 16, and his nine-year-old sister Darcie were killed in the collision in Pitsea, Essex, last Feburary.

But Essex Police say detectives have concluded there were "no offences identified relating to the cause of the collision".

Deimante Ziobryte, 21, from Benfleet was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but will face no further action over the deaths.

She is still charged with being the driver of a car which failed to stop after a road accident and is due to appear in court in March.

Detective Sergeant Sam Nason, who led the investigation, said: "My thoughts, and those of my team, are with Roman and Darcie's friends and family.

"Since their death a year ago we have carried out a thorough and extensive investigation to establish the circumstances which led up to the collision.

"The conclusion of our investigation is that a woman arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving will face no further action.

"We have been in regular contact with Roman and Darcie's family and specialist officers have been supporting them."

The children were on a privately owned e-scooter at the time of their deaths.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but Darcie was pronounced dead at 7.10pm and Roman at 7.50pm.

A coroner described both victims as "very young" and said they died in "very tragic circumstances", giving the provisional cause of death for each child as "traumatic head injury pending further investigation".

In a tribute, the children's mother Emma said: "Roman had a heart of gold, dedicating his time to working with children in the community.

"His warmth and generosity touched so many lives, bringing smiles, hope, and encouragement to those who needed it most.

"His legacy is one of selflessness, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of people.

"Darcie was a soul filled with creativity and beauty, with a passion for art that reflected the depth of her spirit.

"Through her talent, she painted the world with colour and emotion, leaving behind a piece of herself in every stroke.

"She was a wonderful individual who brought joy and inspiration to those lucky enough to know her."
