Council hosted event for Ukrianians and host families

BASILDON Council hosted a welcome event for Ukrainian guests and their host families at The George Hurd Activity Centre, Basildon on Wednesday, 25 May.

More than 60 residents attended with their family members, providing a warm and welcoming opportunity for families to meet and connect with each other and the Basildon Borough community.

Existing residents with ties to Ukraine also attended the networking event, with attendees given the space to share their experiences and learn more about services and opportunities available here in the borough.

There were stalls from charities, voluntary groups and support services that discussed with families the services they offer and how they can benefit them and their guests.

Councillor Andrew Baggott, Leader of Basildon Council, said: "On behalf of Basildon Council and borough residents I would like to welcome our guests from Ukraine to the borough and into their new homes – whether living independently or with host families. This event was key to ensure our Ukrainian friends feel welcome in our borough, giving them an opportunity to network and feel part of a community again. We continue to provide a range of services to incoming Ukrainian guests to ensure families are fully supported on their arrival and as they start to call Basildon home."
