Council gets tough and issues littering charges

Local News by Nub News Reporter 1 hour ago

NINE Basildon residents have been fined a total of £1,823 after being found guilty of littering offences.

The action was instigated by Basildon Council.

The cases were dealt with by the Magistrates' Court under the Single Justice Procedure, which allows defendants to enter a guilty or not guilty plea by post or online without attending court. Where no plea is entered, the case can be proved in the defendant's absence, provided the court is satisfied that the relevant legal documents have been correctly served.

The following individuals were fined and ordered to pay costs:

·        Junior Archibald - £220 (No plea entered)

·        Bobby Butcher - £83 (Guilty SJP)

·        Matthew Evans - £200 (Guilty SJP)

·        Kim Green - £220 (No plea entered)

·        Yara Khan - £220 (No plea entered)

·        Mohammed Abdul Muhit - £220 (No plea entered)

·        Andrew Mulhall - £220 (No plea entered)

·        David Wilcox - £220 (No plea entered)

·        Rafal Zorychta - £220 (No plea entered)

A Council spokesperson, said: "We cannot over-emphasise the importance of disposing of litter responsibly. Littering spoils our streets and open spaces and is simply not acceptable.

"The Council will not tolerate this behaviour - everyone has a duty to take pride in our borough and keep it clean for all who live, work and visit here.

"Basildon Council continues to investigate and take enforcement action against individuals and businesses who litter, fly-tip or dispose of waste illegally.

"Residents are reminded that waste can be disposed of responsibly at household waste and recycling centres or through the Council's collection services."
