A man is set to appear in court charged with a series of burglaries across Basildon following a persistent investigation carried out by Essex Police detectives.

Basildon CID officers have been investigating incidents where car keys were stolen from homes in the Basildon and Billericay areas, before vehicles were taken from driveways.

On Sunday 8 January, car keys were stolen from the hallway of a home in the Basildon area, before a BMW was taken from outside the property.

The stolen vehicle was recovered the following day after it failed to stop for police officers.

Police carried out extensive forensic checks on the vehicle.

A statement from Essex Police says: "Three properties in Billericay, all within walking distance of each other, were targeted in the early hours of Wednesday, 15 February, with vehicles taken from outside two of the properties.

"All vehicles taken were later recovered.

"Officers arrested Callum O'Brien, 29, of Swanstead, Basildon, on Sunday 30 July.

He was later charged with four counts of burglary and appeared at Southend Magistrates' Court on Monday 31 July.

"He was remanded in custody until a further hearing at Basildon Crown Court at Tuesday, 29 August."
