POLICE have offered an assurance to residents of a Basildon estate that they do not thing there is any danger of additional incidents after a boy was attacked with a baseball bat.

Officers have been investigating after a teenager was struck with the baseball bat when confronted by a gang of youths who also stole a cycle.

The incident happened on Thursday (25 November) in Pitseaville Grove at around 5.30pm.

The teenager approached the group vandalising a property but he was then attacked, though his injuries are described as not serious. After the assault the gang took the cycle from the property and left. Officers were granted additional stop and search powers overnight to help prevent further disorder and keep the community safe. Inspector Marcus Dodd reassured residents they believe the incident is "targeted and isolated". He said: "I know this will be worrying to local residents but we do not believe there is a wider threat to the community. As soon as the reports were received, officers were deployed to support the victims and identify anyone still in the area who may be intent on committing crime."
