STATE-of-the-art disabled toilet facilities and new inclusive play equipment are set to be installed at Wat Tyler Country Park.

Essex County Council has funding of up to £100,000 available via its short breaks for disabled children's capital fund for use towards a Changing Places facility and a further £100,000, which Basildon Council will be required to match fund, to go towards an inclusive play space in the borough.

Basildon Council's Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee met last night (Wednesday, 17 February) and agreed to fund a further £150,000 to go towards an inclusive play space, subject to approval of the proposed Play Review Programme and capital funding.

Councillors agreed that installing the facility at Wat Tyler Country Park could be explored further and authorised the investment for the play area during year one of the proposed 10 year Play Review programme subject to the approval of capital funding for this programme.

Committee chairman Cllr David Harrison said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance a popular borough play facility with equipment that will make the park much more accessible for families with disabled children as well as parents who may have disabilities.

"This investment will benefit local families in Pitsea and beyond who regularly use the park's play facilities and make their experience much more comfortable and easy."
