On Thursday 6 June, beacon lightings took place across Basildon to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landing and honour the soldiers who risked their lives for freedom and peace during the D-Day operation in 1944.

Mayor of Basildon, Cllr Allan Davies attended a ceremony at Gloucester Park, joined by Deputy Lord Lieutenant Sue Jackson who proudly lit the beacon.

Later this month The Armed Forces Day parade will take place on Saturday, 29 June from 11.30am to 1pm in Basildon Town Centre - an opportunity to say thank you and show support and solidarity for serving personnel, service families, veterans and cadets.

Basildon Council says residents are invited to attend, show their support and salute members of the armed forces.
