Basildon Armed Forces Day Parade cancelled due to extreme heat

ORGANISERS of this year's Basildon Armed Forces Day Parade that was to due to take place tomorrow (Saturday, 27 June) at 11.50am, through the town centre into St Martin's Square, have taken the decision to cancel the event due to the ongoing forecast of extreme temperatures.

The decision has been taken by the Basildon Civil Military Partnership (BCMP) following the Met Office's red weather warning, in the interests of the health, safety and wellbeing of veterans, cadets, volunteers and everyone due to take part.

A statement from the council said: "Although the parade will not be taking place, Basildon Council will still mark Armed Forces Day by illuminating the Basildon sign in white, red and blue as a visible tribute to the courage, dedication and sacrifice of our Armed Forces community.

"Basildon Council thanks residents for their understanding and apologises for any disappointment."
