ALDi has announced an update for its newest supermarket set to open in Basildon.

The discount supermarket is set to open at Westgate shopping centre and has applied for a licence to open until midnight.

Aldi is preparing to open by the end of the year. The new supermarket will also create 40 new jobs for the town, Aldi has said.

The new store is part of a multi-million pound regeneration of the shopping park by Basildon Borough Council, which purchased the shopping park in 2024 for around £18 million.

In a latest update ahead of Aldi's opening, Basildon Borough Council has received an application for permission for it to open between 6am and midnight Monday to Sunday and to sell alcohol for the same times.

The council is planning hundreds of homes and a new hotel at the site. Back in November, the council's planning committee agreed plans for a seven storey 95-bedroom hotel with a rooftop bar and a block of 97 one and two-bedroom flats.

An Aldi spokesperson said in July: "Construction for our new store at Westgate Shopping Park is progressing well as we move towards opening before the end of the year. This will create up to 40 jobs for the community and enable local people to shop and save closer to home."
