A MAJOR borough link road will be closed overnight on Wednesday, 17 March as emergency pothole repairs are carried out.

From 9pm the A128 will be closed from its junction with its junction with the Church Road at Bulphan and the railway bridge to the north.

It appears to be a late decision by Thurrock Council to carry out the work as they have only published a traffic regulation order today, saying it is necessary to restrict or prohibit traffic 'without delay' because of the likelihood of danger to the public or serious damage to the road.

The council is suggesting drivers make a lengthy diversion through the centre of Basildon, though via the A13 eastbound, A176 northbound, A127 westbound and vice versa for southbound vehicles, there are other shorter rural road routes available.

It is expected the work will be completed by 5am on Thursday morning.

APOLOGY: This report initially dated the closure as Tuesday, 16 March. Our error which we hope has not caused inconvenience.
