Plans have been unveiled for almost 100 new homes in a rural Essex village. Ramsden Bellhouse Developments is planning the 95 homes off Glebe Road in Ramsden Bellhouse on the outskirts of Wickford.

The development is set to include vehicle access from Glebe Road and pedestrian and cyclist access from Orchard Avenue. There will also be a public open space with associated landscape planting and infrastructure, drainage measures, if the plans get planning approval.

The plans state that the site will deliver a range of home types and tenures to cater for all and "create a mixed and balanced community", with 50 per cent affordable housing.

The land where the houses would be built was previously used for growing hay, with hedgerows, trees, and a raised railway track marking its boundaries. The plans are at the outline stage, meaning details such as the size of homes, parking, and building materials would be submitted in a separate planning application.

The planning documents also state: "The masterplan is informed by our understanding of the site, its urban and landscape context, creating a layout that is responsive and sensitive to its surroundings in both scale and form. The technical work that has been undertaken so far demonstrates that there are no issues which would impact the deliverability of new homes at the site."

The developer is also planning "delivery of low carbon homes", with air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points, along with 10 accessible bungalow units.
