A PUB in the heart of Basildon is to close later this year and be demolished.

The Wetherspoons chain has announced it is to close The Moon on the Square in Market Square in September. will close before the end of the year.

Bosses at the pub chain giant says all staff have been informed of the closure and are set to be transferred elsewhere as a result.

It has not been disclosed what the development plans are for the site.
